Kampot, Cambodia.
I WAS TRAVELLING THROUGH CAMBODIA WHEN I STOPPED OFF IN KAMPOT - A DUSTY ‘LIL TOWN CLOSE TO THE VIETNAMESE BORDER.
THERE I MET ANNIE, AN AMERICAL GAL WHO HAD STARTED SUP ASIA - A ‘STAND UP PADDLING’ SCHOOL, WHO ALONG WITH A LOCAL NGO RAN WORKSHOP WITH KIDS TO CLEAN UP PLASTICS FROM THE STREETS. THEY WOULD GET CREATIVE WITH THE BAGS, BOTTLES AND WRAPPERS, MAKING THNGS - TEACHING THE YOUNGER GENERATION THAT THIS REFUSE MAY NOT BE RUBBISH AFTER ALL.
EPICARTS WAS established in 2001, running projects in the UK, Cambodia & China. It promotes the use of art as a form of expression & empowerment, celebrating the creative potential in those with whom it works - people of all abilities & disabilities.
With a focus on recycled plastics (plastic clean-up awareness programs), home cooking that would nanny proud, various other righteous handmade products plus frequent live music/theatrical events - it’s an absolute pleasure spending time here.
Just don’t be surprised if the music is way too loud when you walk in - most of the staff are deaf.
